After 16 years as CEO, Arne Bergby will take on a new role as working chairman of the board at itslearning AS – the provider of digital learning platforms to schools and universities around the world. Bergby will continue to work actively in the company focusing on global expansion and strategic partnerships. Steve Tucker will step in as the new CEO for itslearning.
The change of leadership will be effective Tuesday, February 4, 2020.
After building up itslearning from a local EdTech startup to the global company that provides an award-winning learning platform, Bergby is now handing over the day-to-day operations to Steve Tucker, an experienced digital executive from the UK. Tucker is well positioned for this new challenge as he has held various senior roles in digital data-driven global businesses.
”We are proud to have developed a fantastic product that serves millions of users around the globe, making their everyday work life easier and more efficient. Now we are focusing on improving the user experience and looking for further growth in existing and new markets. Tucker will bring in valuable international experience in managing digital businesses, that will ensure the right growth and quality for itslearning going forward.”
New global opportunities
In recent years itslearning has established partnerships with technology giants such as Google and Microsoft. itslearning is also expanding its presence in China via a joint venture partnership.
“I´m looking forward to being able to focus my time on long-term growth and strategic partnerships. Especially, to expand our foothold in the USA and open up new opportunities in China. At the same time, we will develop the business in a way that will always ensure that we deliver quality and the best services to our existing users,” Bergby emphasizes.
The global media and learning company Sanoma became the majority shareholder of itslearning in December 2019. With Sanoma’s strong financial backing, long-term focus and this strategic management restructuring, itslearning is in a good position for further growth.
A strong competence center for EdTech
New CEO Steve Tucker is impressed by what the company has achieved over the years.
“What itslearning has managed to do is quite unique. The company has a very strong and competent team. It has been a trailblazer for EdTech startups from the Nordics and is one of the few that has succeeded with global expansion. I´m really looking forward to taking itslearning into the next phase together with a team that is truly passionate about education and empowering educators,” says Tucker.
He will lead global operations for itslearning from the head office in Bergen, Norway. The company has also recently strengthened the leadership team by bringing in Johnny Anderson, from Norway´s leading digital bank Sbanken ASA, as the new Head of Corporate Communication.
