One of the unique features of itslearning is its extensive capability to integrate with content and applications from other sources. We are proud to announce that we have just added a Europeana Collections plugin to the platform! Europeana Collections is a massive image repository used by teachers around the world to create learning resources.
In terms of integrating content, a core area of the itslearning platform is the Library. In the Library, users can create and share educational materials with their school, county, or with all itslearning users globally. Similarly, commercial vendors and publishers can publish their material in the Library for their customers.
We are always on the lookout for open educational resources that can provide teachers and learners with easy access to high-quality content. The Library is a dynamic place for sharing, using and reusing content. To facilitate focused search, content can be tagged in various ways, like by learning objective, topic and/or grade level. Platform users can help improve search capabilities by rating content.
The itslearning Library contains learning resources by teachers and authors.
In order to provide an easy way to search and use content from the Europeana repository, we developed a plugin for the itslearning rich text editor. With this plugin, you can start an image search from wherever you are working: an assignment, test, page, etc. With the click of a button, you can add the selected image into itslearning. The search references the complimentary section of the Europeana repository, which amounts to a staggering 10 million images!
This is the Europeana search plugin in itslearning.
This is an example of Europeana content in an itslearning assignment.
To install the app:
-Click on the app icon (jigsaw puzzle piece) in any itslearning Rich Text Editor (RTE)
-In the app library search box, type Europeana
-Click on ‘include this app’
Each user only has to set it up once. After that, they’ll be able to click on the app icon and select ‘Browse European image library’ in any itslearning RTE!
We hope you find this new feature as useful as we do!
