The seamless implementation of a learning platform during a merger

“An essential part of our collaboration is that all educators have access to all courses, including their colleagues’ courses, so they can learn from each other. How does my colleague solve this, and how can I benefit from that? It can be inspirational, which is a value in itself.”

Mathilde Romme Eliasson
Pedagogical IT-Coordinator, SOSU H

SOSU is an organisation of state-owned institutions in Denmark that offer vocational education within Social and Health services. SOSU H is the result of the merger of two smaller SOSU schools and is currently the largest SOSU school in Denmark.

The challenge

Seamlessly implementing a new LMS while maintaining a quality educational experience for students and educators.

Bringing institutions together requires integrating systems and procedures. Job roles need to shift, new systems and procedures are introduced, and employees need to be trained to use the new systems and procedures in question.
A major challenge when SOSU H decided to implement itslearning was a lack of pedagogical IT personnel.

  • What were the most important criteria to successfully implement the LMS across the new college?
  • How could they ensure buy-in from staff?
  • What training was necessary to ensure a successful adoption?

“We now have a platform that integrates all the tools the students need, and improves the overall educational experience. We are happy that itslearning makes this possible.”

Troels Hviid Pedersen,
Pedagogical IT-Coordinator, SOSU H

The process:

Adopt best practices, allocate resources, and supply training

The implementation of the learning platform happened gradually, during which itslearning provided staff with platform training. An implementation project management group was formed, consisting of educators from different departments across SOSU H. They met regularly to share how different teams structure the platform, address questions and improve usage across the organisation.

The institution has highly enthusiastic and dedicated personnel who worked on implementation and share best practice. The school strategy focuses on developing the potential of the platform.

“itslearning has greatly improved and streamlined our communication and collaboration – both between teachers and students.”

The result

Successful implementation with the aim of using the platform to its fullest potential

SOSU H has successfully implemented itslearning across the institution and is now working on increasing user adoption and taking full advantage of the platform. The platform helps structure everyday tasks and lectures for educators and students and has become a hub for teaching. It has helped provide SOSU H with team structure, digital assignments and tests for hybrid learning, and much more — with an online team that runs everything through itslearning.

“We now have a platform that integrates all the tools the students need, and improves the overall educational experience. We are happy that itslearning makes this possible,” Troels Hviid Pedersen, Pedagogical IT-Coordinator, SOSU H.

Students use itslearning to get an overview of their schedule and assignments. Almost 80% of the students use the itslearning mobile app, which improves engagement outside the classroom. Teachers collaborate with their colleagues to share resources and templates, which they can easily copy and reuse. This is both inspirational and timesaving.

Troels adds, “itslearning has greatly improved and streamlined our communication and collaboration – both between teachers and students.”
