Cath Gunn, Deputy Principal from West Herts College, takes the lead in describing the 4th campus – online vision at the Blended Learning Consortium (BLC) conference – “Thanks to itslearning, delivering outstanding and differentiated learning has been possible”, she stated.

West Herts College educates over 12,000 students across three campuses. Upon implementing the itslearning platform in 2015, the college were keen on delivering differentiated learning and strived on becoming an outstanding online college. With this came the vision of the ‘4th campus – online’; a campus which provides personalised learning and is accessible for students, anywhere, anytime on any type of device.

On Tuesday 27 June, Cath presented to a large college audience at the BLC conference. The presenters described their Learning Platform choice itslearning to be “remarkable in terms of its functionality and simplified user experience, with flexibility which allows creation of content to be tailored not only to particular subjects but also the teaching styles of individual tutors.”

West Herts College implemented the itslearning platform two years ago and within year one, the platform was fully absorbed into the college’s culture, including tutors using the platform to deliver teaching and students for learning. Furthermore, the built-in functionality of itslearning has allowed tutors to explore modern teaching styles, such as the use of multimedia and recording lessons to support learning in and outside of college times. It has also improved the results of core subjects including English and Maths.

Cath also added “During our Learning Platform selection process, itslearning demonstrated a deep understanding of what we wanted to achieve. The product’s innovation can be put to work straightaway, creating learning experiences for our students which are motivating as well as informative. From this there are efficiencies and wider financial savings to be gained – this year the College has saved £350K on delivery costs”.

Founded by university students who were studying for their masters in 1999, 18 years on, itslearning provides a leading Learning platform to over 7 million users worldwide. itslearning is still recognised for its heritage and passion to enable students to be at the forefront of their education and a legacy to help shape, support, and manage a more personalised learning environment for colleges’ new vision.
