Chief Product Officer - Newton, MA (TRN851)

Job Description/Major Responsibilities:
To strengthen our team in Boston, we are currently looking for a Chief Product Officer. Reporting directly to the CEO, the Chief Product Officer (CPO) will be responsible for the ongoing development of the itslearning service with a focus on building the best pedagogical platform for education.

Working closely with a highly talented team of product managers, engineers, and designers, the CPO will help define the product vision, strategy and roadmap for the itslearning users and customers.

The CPO should be passionate about developing a great user experience-based learning platform, with deep educational insights and will serve as a highly visible spokesperson for the company. Additionally, this person should be an innovator who understands how to craft a vision, get people excited, and rapidly drive concepts from the spec to the screen.

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Company Level Responsibilities

  • Serve on the Executive Team, “co-owning” company strategy and leadership.
  • Deliver the company goals through a market leading product.
  • Represent the company, product and vision at all levels to many different audiences.

Product-Oriented Responsibilities

  • Create and articulate the company’s product vision and product road map.
  • Recruit, develop and retain top product management talent.
  • Lead the product management process.
  • Together with our CTO, deliver product improvements and features on time, with high quality, and high customer acceptance and delight.

Management Responsibilities

  • Motivate and lead a team of twenty product owners, UX specialists and designers.
  • Drive value from the department’s skillset to deliver a world class product.
  • Delegate, collaborate and lead as appropriate.

Required Qualifications and Experience:
In addition to a demonstrated and extraordinary track record of success, the selected candidate will have depth of experience designing and/or producing end user software/services for enterprise markets including mobile solutions.

Ideally the candidate will have worked in a world-class organization. Experience in SaaS, mobile, education and/or social media, particularly where a key objective was to make complex processes easy to use.

  • Demonstrated success in building products with high adoption and high user-satisfaction.
  • Built and directly managed high performance teams of 20+ or more in a rapid growth environment.
  • Ability to scale high performance organizations to meet the needs of a rapidly growing business.
  • Skilled at achieving shared vision and driving execution.
  • Understanding of the whole product value chain.

At itslearning we have a strong focus on supporting best practice teaching and learning processes, and supporting teachers, parents and students in their day-to-day teaching and follow-up activities. We are strengthening our team with someone with a strong educational background and SaaS product management expertise.

As a product manager in itslearning, you will join our international product owner team. This team is responsible for the management, specification and development and the ongoing success of our world-leading learning platform. As one of our product owners, you will be an expert on the needs of the educational sector, and know how to translate these into product requirements that will solve key problems for our growing user base across the USA. You will follow the requirements from idea to execution by guiding our development teams to successfully develop these requirements.

  • Work with the US team, global team, our customers and users to help define the product vision, roadmap and prioritized development requirements, with a focus on assessment, grade book, SIS, standards-based assessment, standardised testing and learning management systems.
  • Define, manage and prioritize product requirements.
  • Provide educational expertise and insight to our user experience team to create high-level prototypes.
  • Provide user stories, leadership and guidance to your two development teams using the Agile methodology.
  • Set KPIs for both teams to ensure success.
  • Be responsible for the success of our assessment and grade book, SIS grade book integration world-wide, but with a focus on the US market.
  • Help define our ongoing strategy for supporting competency-based learning/assessment, individualised learning for the US market.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

iOS Mobile Application Developer - Newton, MA (TRN822)

Job description:

One of the company’s main goals for the last 2 years is delivering world class UX. As an iOS Developer with itslearning, your main mission is to create that incredible user experience within a given feature of the itslearning web application. You will work in a small scrum team consisting of 5-7 team members. As an organization they will make sure the scrum team consists of all appropriate skills to manage a feature backlog, including testing and designing resources in the team.

The team is considered self organized and is 100% dedicated to sprint work. Your scrum team works on features from idea to deployment, and based on monitoring, your team will be tweaking the feature that is in production when result is not satisfactory. So in short, you will be taking decisions and implementing changes seen and used by 4,000,000 users worldwide! You will also be joining a bigger team of highly qualified Software Engineers across teams and sites that has the common goal that itslearning’s product should be the heart of education.

itslearning is dedicated to delivering great performance, availability and usability for their customers. Their users are mainly school teachers, students, parents or administrators among others, and their mission is to make the educational system as efficient as possible so that school work is based on learning and teaching – not reporting and administrative work.

We develop our mobile applications using the platforms’ native languages: Java on Android, Swift and Objective-C on iOS (moving forward only Swift). The mobile applications communicate with the backend using RESTful APIs and/or sockets (e.g. in communication apps). Your primary focus area will be iOS development, but you can also develop for Android if you want to.

Desired Skills and Experience:
itslearning is looking for iOS developers with extensive experience on native app development using Swift and Objective-C. All our new apps are developed using Swift. Older apps were developed in Objective-C and we aim to migrate them over time.

Having experience on Android development is considered a plus, but not required.
