Managing Course Permissions

Managing access rights in digital classrooms is an important part of course administration. The permission system has been updated with a revised interface that supports managing course access.

What has Changed

Control Over Your Course Content

The new design provides an overview of access rights, showing who can view resources and who can edit course materials. This applies both to view permissions for individual resources and to edit permissions for course materials. 

Permission Management

You can edit permissions in two ways: through the Actions menu or the quick Edit button. This allows to adjust access in just a few clicks, for example when you need to give a student special access to a folder.

Better Visibility at the Individual Level

Another feature is the Permission per participant view. It gives you an overview of the permissions each student and colleague has in a course. This can be used when someone can’t access content or when you need to ensure specific students have the right access.

Permission Levels

The system supports different permission levels, from Read (view-only) to Full control (complete management capabilities). 

For example, you can give advanced students Edit access for collaborative projects, while others keep Read access.

Summary of Features for Teachers

• Easy Access Points: Permissions can be managed at both the course level and for individual resources or folders.
• Smart Inheritance: When Evaluate and Participate permissions are set on a folder, they are automatically inherited by all elements inside it. For example, if you add a test to a folder, the Participate permission on that folder decides who can take the test. This ensures consistent access settings and you can manage content without adjusting permissions for each individual item.

• Additional Permissions Feature:  The “+ Assign additional permissions” function allows you to assign permissions on a case-by-case basis.

• Built-in Guidance: The system includes explanatory banners that provide context on how permissions work.
