Create content with the redesigned Page

If you create course content in itslearning, you will likely use Page or Note today. We are bringing these together into one tool. Page becomes the common way to create and structure content, with an updated interface that works across devices.

The update is a step towards simpler content creation, with improved accessibility and better support for tablets.

What's new in the Page

Page is the common tool for creating and structuring content in itslearning. It replaces the previous Note and legacy Page creation flows, bringing two tools into one.

The update brings improved accessibility and better responsiveness across device sizes. Your existing content carries over: content already in Page is supported in the updated experience, and Note content will also be supported once the later migration takes place.

For teachers using the image gallery, image blocks now support image carousel functionality.

How Page works

PAge

A Page is built from content blocks. You add the blocks you need and arrange them in one or two columns. You can choose between three layouts:

  • One column
  • Two columns
  • Two columns (wide left)

The content blocks you can use

  • Text and media: rich text and embedded media
  • Files: uploaded files for download
  • Image gallery: multiple images shown as a gallery, with a carousel view when an image is opened
  • Poll: single-question vote with up to ten alternatives
  • News feed (RSS): stories from an RSS or Atom feed

Practical use cases

  • Make reading more accessible Add a text and media block with the day's reading. Students who prefer to listen can tap the Listen button and follow along at their own pace.
  • Group work Give students editing rights on a Page and let a group build it together. They add their own content blocks as they brainstorm, gather research and prepare a presentation on a topic from class.
  • Colour-code your content blocks Use a consistent colour for each type of content, for example blue for videos, green for reading and red for assignments. Students who rely on structure pick up the pattern quickly.
  • Bring current events into your course Pull in a news feed for a social studies class, or a science feed for biology. Lessons stay connected to what is happening in the world.
  • In the flipped classroom Share videos, reading material and instructions on a Page before the lesson. Students arrive ready to discuss and apply what they have prepared, and a quick poll lets you check who needs more time.
  • Share photos from a class trip Use an image gallery to bring the highlights into your course, from the museum visit to the group shot at the end of the day. Students can scroll through them together.

Working with your Page

  1. Content students can listen to: Text and media blocks include a Listen button. This opens the content in Immersive Reader, which reads the text aloud. The Listen button remains available in presentation mode  meaning students can listen along while you teach.

  2. Presenting and printing: Page includes a presentation mode that hides editing controls and shows the content in a presentation-friendly view. You can also print a Page using your browser's print function.

  3. Organising content blocks: Move content blocks by dragging them with the six-dot handle, or use the options menu to move them up, down or to another column. Archive the blocks you no longer need, and restore them whenever they become useful again.

Page settings

For each Page you can:

  • set visibility, for example hide the Page from students
  • assign the Page to selected participants- groups or individuals
  • connect learning objectives, where these are enabled in the course

Works on tablets

The updated Page tool is built to work on tablets. Two-column Pages show side by side in both portrait and landscape orientation, and you can drag and drop content blocks using the six-dot handle.

Your existing content

You don't need to start over. Existing content moves to the updated Page tool automatically.

  • Previous Page content (rich text, files, polls) migrates when the new UI launches. Some formatting may change but is kept to a minimum.
  • Previous Note content migrates in a later phase. Each migrated Note becomes a Page with one text and media block containing the Note content. Old Note links will redirect to the new Page.
  • Folders in legacy file content blocks remain viewable. Folders cannot be created or edited in new file content blocks.
